BNP agree to hold march in Whitehall. New meet-up point for antifascists

Reposted from London Anti-Fascists

STOP THE BNP
SOUTH LONDON ANTIFASCISTS CALLOUT
***UPDATED***

The Metropolitan Police have banned the BNP from assembling in Woolwich this Saturday and marching to Lewisham Islamic Centre, and the Centre has therefore cancelled its plan to hold a rally. However, as of this morning, Nick Griffin plans for the BNP to meet at the permitted demonstration site in Whitehall and march to the cenotaph. We are therefore calling on antifascists to join us to stop the BNP.

ASSEMBLY POINT: Imperial War Museum Gardens (Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park), near the Russian memorial.

ADDRESS: Kennington Road, SE1

TIME: 11a.m., Saturday 1st June

ORGANISE: It is vital that we form a critical mass to prevent the BNP from marching, while preserving our own safety as much as is possible. This means we need numbers on the day. If you are part of an existing ‘affinity group’, or an informal group of friends, organise among yourselves to make sure you stay together. Be sure to get to the assembly point on time to talk with other people about the day ahead. We will have legal numbers to distribute on the day.

TRAVEL: Don’t travel to Whitehall on your own. Try to travel in a group, and stay in a group, and leave in a group. The nearest stops to the assembly point are Lambeth North or Elephant and Castle. The area is served by many buses, including the 3, 12, 148 and 159.

CLOTHING: Wear nondescript clothing, and bring a change of clothes if you think you might need it. Strong, comfortable footwear is also advised. It’s sometimes advisable to bring something to disguise or cover your face on a demonstration.

FOOD & USEFUL THINGS: Be sure to bring food, water, and sunscreen if you think you’ll need it. It’s good to be prepared.

ALONE? It’s best to try to organise among trusted friends to come to these demonstrations. However, if you don’t know anyone going to the demo, don’t panic! Email us ASAP, and we’ll try to ensure you’re not alone on the day itself. ADDRESS: southlondon-antifascists@aktivix.org

SICKO! EDL Uses The Murder of Woolwich Victim For Thier Own Gain.

Reposted from Anti-Fascist Network

Last night in a calm, considered and educated manor the EDL thought about its response to the brutal public murder, and botched beheading of a man going about his business in Woolwich, London….Not really, as you might expect from a group of reactionary right wing morons they set about making the most of the situation and used the murder as an excuse to dress up like terrorists and run around with plod. They got pissed, the celebrations got out of hand, and they ended up smashing up a pub before fighting with police. Vice magazine took some good photo’s of the pricks here – Vice pics.

London EDL, Bexley Div - Celebrating the fact they think there's a chance for a bit of racism.

London EDL, Bexley Div – Celebrating the fact they think there’s a
chance for a bit of racism.

The EDL is really going to milk this horrible incident, giving the two murderers exactly what they wanted; divided communities. As has been said many times, the British far right (EDL etc) and lunatic religious extremists are two sides of the same coin. The religious extremists can’t get any support for their insane ideas from 99.9% of British Muslims, so they carry out a brutal murder and the EDL responds just as the extremists would like, they attack the innocent – ruining lives and communities, and trying to divide us in a way that the religious fanatics could never have done on their own. It’s lucky for the rest of us that the Muslim community is in general very thoughtful, and reacts to the threats with a dignity that the EDL followers will never know.

There have already been incidents of attacks against innocent Muslim communities – in Essex a masked man walked into a mosque brandishing knives, in Kent a mosque was vandalised and in Bolton cars outside a mosque have been done over. One shitsack ‘patriot’ has been spreading lies on twitter that ordinary Muslims in Oldham were celebrating in the streets!?! This lie was then spread by CxF and EDL until GM Police had to take to twitter to say it was a load of old cobblers. On BBC Radio Five a caller of Indian decent, with kids in the army, talked of how she did not feel safe with the EDL running around blaming all brown people.

Other EDL divisions throughout the country who have been surrendered for some time are springing into life again to capitalise on the horrific murder. No doubt the Newcastle EDL organisers are rubbing their hands in glee, hoping that this death will boost their numbers at Saturdays protest. The EDL has called for a demo for bank holiday Monday outside Downing Street – presumably as the two murderers were sent on an all expenses paid cruise rather than being shot, uh? Time for London to unite and show the haters where to go! All Antifascists will be remaining vigilant over the coming weeks – to again try to stop the rot the far right brings to our streets, and using the upsurge in EDL facebook activity to gather intelligence on organised racism.

YAY "we got what we wanted" Sick fascists, yesterday evening.

YAY “we got what we wanted” Sick fascists, yesterday evening.

Below is a statement from an AFN  affiliated group, speaking on behalf of the Anti-Fascist Network.

The Anti-Fascist Network deplores the murder of a young man in Woolwich yesterday and our condolences go out to his family and friends. We also deplore the use of this incident by the far right to stir up Islamophobia once again.

By calling a ‘terrorist alert’ the government has shamelessly sought political capital from what was clearly an isolated act of brutality by a couple of lone psychopaths claiming to be Muslims. There are maniacs in every community and grouping, not least the far right. The loss of a life in such horrific circumstances is always a tragedy for those involved, just as it was when fascists killed Altab Ali or when the police killed Blair Peach.

Meanwhile the Muslim community has conducted itself with dignity, and a huge number of individual Muslims have spontaneously taken to social media to disassociate themselves from any kind of sectarian violence.

Unlike the EDL, now virtually a spent force, who have chosen to use this man’s death to go on a recruiting drive and encourage attacks on minorities. The Internet is now buzzing with ‘patriots’, nationalists and fascists eager to exploit the situation – please don’t encourage them by carelessly repeating their drivel.

We will all need to be vigilant, and work with our communities against any rise in fascist activity.

We reproduce below a statement from the Muslim Council of Great Britain:
“This is a truly barbaric act that has no basis in Islam and we condemn this unreservedly.

Our thoughts are with the victim and his family. We understand the victim is a serving member of the Armed Forces. Muslims have long served in this country’s Armed Forces, proudly and with honour.

This attack on a member of the Armed Forces is dishonourable, and no cause justifies this murder. This action will no doubt heighten tensions on the streets of the United Kingdom.

We call on all our communities, Muslim and non-Muslim, to come together in solidarity to ensure the forces of hatred do not prevail.”

Update: “Police seize computer and search home of UKIP’s Eric Kitson”

UKIP's Eric Kitson

UKIP’s Eric Kitson

“POLICE have raided the house of a UKIP politician embroiled in a race hate storm – as he confirmed his formal resignation as a councillor is taking place today.

Officers from West Mercia Police have searched the Stourport-based home of Eric Kitson and seized his computer to gather evidence for a possible prosecution.

The 59-year-old has not been arrested, but has been voluntarily interviewed about the saga of his anti-Muslim, anti-Jewish Facebook rants.

He will formally resign as a councillor at 4pm today – despite only winning a seat at Worcestershire County Council 13 days ago.

It means his spell at County Hall is the shortest of any elected politician in the authority’s history, and will trigger a by-election.

A statement released on his behalf by UKIP said: “It is with sadness that I am announcing my resignation as a councillor.

“I am extremely sorry to have let down my friends, the people in the hardworking UKIP team that got me elected, the people of Stourport, and of course my family.

“Like many people who are not professional politicians I used my Facebook page a general post board.

“That was foolish – I am no racist, but I can understand why people could think so.”

The UK Independence Party say a meeting is due in the coming days of its decision-making National Executive Committee, which is almost certain to revoke his membership too.

He was outed over the weekend for filling his now-deleted Facebook page with a host of racist images and cartoons.

Among the most shocking was a cartoon of a Muslim being spit-roasted on a fire fuelled by copies of the Koran.

He also made comments referring to Muslim women, saying “hang um first then ask questions later” and called for the repatriation of “six million migrants and refugees”.

West Mercia Police had received complaints from the public over the saga, and acted by searching his home last night.

A spokesman said: “Eric Kitson, from Stourport, was voluntarily interviewed by officers from West Mercia Police over concerns raised by the public about allegedly offensive and racist comments made on social media.

“A computer was seized and a property in Stourport searched by police for evidence gathering purposes.

“A file has been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service for their consideration.”

Police have also taken a statement from Mumshad Ahmed, a Muslim former county councillor, who wants him prosecuted for inciting racial hatred.”

“Racial hatred condemned by Cheltenham Town chairman”

index“RACIAL hatred in football has been condemned by Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker after a Robins’ fan allegedly sent racist abuse to two black footballers.

Police have arrested and bailed a 25-year-old man from Cheltenham on suspicion of sending racist tweets to Northampton Town striker Adebayo Akinfenwa and defender Clarke Carlisle.

A joint investigation between police forces in Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire was launched on Wednesday night.

It comes after Northampton knocked Cheltenham out of the League Two play-offs over two legs last Thursday and Sunday.

Carlisle, who captained Northampton in both matches, is also chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association and an ambassador for anti-racism campaigners Kick It Out.

In response to a racial tweet, Carlisle wrote: “Really?! You must make your parents very proud.”

Cheltenham Town said if proceedings continued and the man was found guilty of racist abuse, they would make an example of him.

Mr Baker said: “It is, of course, totally unacceptable and, if he is proven guilty, the club will be taking its own action to ban him from home games in the coming season.

“It’s not something we have discussed as a board as yet but we do take crowd behaviour very seriously. I think there’s a racist culture in British society per se and it comes out in various ways, including football. I don’t think it’s a football problem but a small collection of people who are intolerant.

“Things of a racist nature are totally unacceptable and football is doing what it can to stamp it out of the game and, fortunately, our club doesn’t suffer from this sort of thing.” The club last night thanked fans for their help in reporting racial abuse to the police.

A police spokeswoman said: “The 25-year-old man was arrested under the Malicious Communications Act. He was subsequently also arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence of intentionally causing harassment, alarm or distress.

“The man has now been bailed.”

“UKIP county councillor Eric Kitson facing the sack for posting racist comments on Facebook”

Eric Kitson 'racist'

Eric Kitson ‘racist comments’

A NEW UKIP councillor in Worcestershire has sparked fury amid allegations he unleashed a series of racist abuse online.

Eric Kitson, who won a seat in Stourport just 11 days ago, is facing the sack today over a cartoon of a Muslim being spit-roasted on a fire fuelled by copies of the Koran on his Facebook page.

In one comment, which was believed to have been posted since becoming a councillor, he said in reference to Muslim women: “Hang um all first then ask questions later.”

A raft of anti-Jewish remarks have also appeared on his Facebook site, and in a separate post he has called for the repatriation of “six million migrants and refugees”.

There was also false claims posted on his site that the Rothschild banking dynasty had controlled Nazi Germany’s leader Adolf Hitler.

His Facebook page has also called for Muslim women to be hanged, suggested Islam is “a cancer” that should be eradicated “with nuclear weapons” and expressd support for UKIP leader Nigel Farage teaming up with BNP boss Nick Griffin.

His site also called for the world to “unite against Islam” and supports the far-right English Defence League.

The pages have been re-published on a website called Stand for Peace, which has condemned his actions.

The Muslim community has called the rants “sickening” and a petition is being circulated around mosques tonight calling for his removal.

Councillor Adrian Hardman, the leader of Worcestershire County Council, said: “This looks like criminal activity because he’s inciting racial hatred – he should do the honourable thing and resign because he has brought shame on the county.”

The attacks are currently being investigated by UKIP HQ in London, and have been condemned as “disgusting” by senior figures at Worcestershire County Council this morning.

Councillor Kitson has only just been through training for being an elected politician, and is one of four UKIP members to have just been elected to the authority for the first time ever.

If he is removed from his position it would be the shortest spell any elected politician has ever had in County Hall – and would trigger a by-election.

A UKIP spokesman told the Worcester News: “The party is looking into it because we need to find out exactly what has gone on here.

“We don’t want to dismiss him outright until we investigate it.

“Our understanding is that he has offered to resign over it, but we need to establish what’s happened.

“A conversation will be taking place and if we find out he has behaved inappropriately, he would have to go.”

Councillor Peter McDonald, leader of Worcestershire’s Labour group, said: “These remarks are disgusting and it brings the whole office of being a councillor into disrepute.

“It’s a terrible mess, he has let himself down, the council down, and the voters who elected him in down – they did not vote for this.

“It’s terribly sad and pretty shocking what he has done – this man is now an elected councillor.”

The authority has already had one request for the Standards Committee to investigate, and has released a statement in the last few minutes.

Simon Mallinson, head of legal and democratic services, said: “Whilst we would avoid commenting on any individual case at this stage, elected members are expected to comply with the council’s code of conduct when they act in their role as county councillors.

“Any complaint that this code has been breached when acting in such a role will be carefully considered.”

Coun Kitson has yet to respond to calls from the press, nor has Wyre Forest’s UKIP branch.

Muslim Mumshad Ahmed, a former county councillor, said: “I am sickened and disgusted by this, I cannot believe the hatred he is creating.

“I will be taking a petition around mosques tonight to get people to sign it, this man is doing something very dangerous – when a Koran was burned there was riots around the world.

“I cannot see why he’s done this.”

“Worcester UKIP candidate Richard Delingpole in Photoshopped Hitler picture row”

The posh nazis at UKIP try and hide behind the ‘joke’ tag yet again..

The picture featuring Richard Delingpole and Adolf Hitler

The picture featuring Richard Delingpole and Adolf Hitler

“A UK Independence Party election candidate in Worcester has published a doctored image of himself on the internet standing behind Adolf Hitler.

Richard Delingpole, who is standing for county council election in the Riverside ward, posted the image on Twitter.

One political rival has branded the picture “sickening and abhorrent”.

But the businessman, of Henwick Road, St John’s, has insisted the image was a joke in response to reports that the Conservative party is trawling social networking sites looking for dirt on UKIP candidates.

The picture shows Adolf Hitler, with three henchmen standing behind him, all of whom have had their faces changed to a youthful looking Mr Delingpole.

Yesterday UKIP’s Worcester branch apologised, blaming a “very deep sense of humour” which could be misunderstood.

Carl Humphries, the branch organiser for Worcester and Mid-Worcestershire, said he would not be thrown out of the party.

“I can assure you he is definitely not a Nazi or anything like that – he’s got a very deep sense of humour,” he said.

“He has been vetted by me, all our candidates are clean in every respect, but I am sorry if this offended people.”

Mr Delingpole, who runs a design agency, has now deleted the picture.

“There’s a story going around that the Tories are trawling Facebook accounts of UKIP candidates to drag up things about them, this was a joke based on that,” he said.

“Of course people won’t think I’m an Adolf Hitler sympathiser, to suggest otherwise is disingenuous.

“It’s clearly a picture of Adolf Hitler I have photo-shopped, it shows we’ve got a sense of humour.”

Mr Delingpole, who is a war re-enactor, said the image first appeared on his Facebook page some time ago after a friend joked that he was a Nazi.

He posted it on Twitter yesterday morning with the caption: “I really must get rid of some of these old Facebook images before the Tories get hold of them” before deleting it.

But the image was seen by a Conservative councillor in another part of the country, who tipped off colleagues in Worcestershire.

Yesterday Coun Simon Geraghty, who is standing for the Conservative party in Riverside, said: “I find it absolutely sickening and abhorrent.

“I think the vast majority of British people will find this shocking – it’s not funny at all, it’s dreadful and I can’t believe he’s done it.”

UKIP is fielding 1,734 candidates in tomorrow’s council elections, but over the last few days it has been forced to suspend three candidates – one for being an ex-BNP activist, another for “liking” the extremist English Defence League on Facebook, and the third for being a former National Front Organiser.

Yesterday, a spokesman from UKIP’s national HQ in London said: “Richard Delingpole‘s not dodgy in any way – he did it because he’s fed up of people being professionally outraged.”

Meanwhile, UKIP leader Nigel Farage has waded into the controversy today, by saying it was “a joke” in the wake of yesterday’s coverage of rotten UKIP candidates in the Daily Mirror.

He said: “To present it as anything else would be a travesty.”

In today’s Sun newspaper another UKIP candidate, Bradley Monk, aged 19, who is standing at Hampshire County Council, was outed for posting snaps of himself online as shamed pervert Jimmy Savile.

He wore a mask of the disgraced paedophile at a Halloween party last year.

He said it was a “harmless joke” and added he was “in no way endorsing” what Savile did.

Mr Farage has admitted the party is too small to properly vet the record number of council candidates standing in the elections.

* The other candidates in Riverside are Labour’s Lynn Denham, Green Louis Stephen, Sean McCauley for Trades Unionists and Socialists Against the Cuts and Julie Whitwam for the BNP.”
